Wizard of Oz
Redesign

Based on both the original book and the countless adaptations this story has gone through, here is my version of the 3 characters Glinda, Elphaba and Dorothy, props and Munchkin Village (from left to right).

Conceptually, I was thinking what if the world of Oz is sectioned out in parts based on the main material of that part (stone, fabric, wood, and nature/flowers)- and that idea manifests onto both the character design, the prop design and location design as well. Some keywords for each character in my version:

GLINDA: princess, people pleaser, sparkly, plastic, mask, bubbly, cheerful, stars, constellations, ribbons, skinny legend, pink, pastel, glitter, bright.

ELPHABA: experimental, edgy, nerd, vibrant, neon, messy, stitched, deconstructed, CMYK, makeshift, slick, chaotic, unique, rebel, confident.

DOROTHEA: retrospective/ nostalgic, nerdy, anxious, bookworm, insecure, needs validation, bubbly, creative, loves patterns, routinal, messy, artistic.

Alice in Wonderland
Redesign

The description for this character that I was given in concept art class reads:

The Queen of Hearts: The insane, murderous dictator who rules over Wonderland without mercy and is the main antagonist of the game. Her body is composed mainly of tentacles; tentacles for arms, legs and even hair. She appears to be partially robotic due to visible gears in her mouth.

The Mad Hatter: He is green-skinned and wears what looks like a loosened strait jacket, a large gear protruding out of his back. He wields a cane and his hat is tall and covered in astrological symbols. He is a psychopath, literally gone "mad" and obsessed with time and clockworks, and considers himself to be a genius. He invents mechanical devices, often evidently using the bodies of living organisms for the base of his inventions, as he plans to do to all of Wonderland's inhabitants.

I believe these are character descriptions from the game Alice: Madness Returns. I did look up what the characters actually look like in the game after I read the description but my inspo came mostly from the descriptions alone.

For the queen I was feeling a murderous sexy pirate x Ursula vibe so that's what I went with, also I decorated her with body parts since I feel like she would save a part of each human body she consumed as a souvenir. For the Hatter I was envisioning a mad scientist x steampunk aesthetics x outrageous fashion. I also added a bit of moral ambiguity to him as well.

Lazurite
Mobile game protagonist design

The brief for this one is to design a character for a mobile game, as follows: "A lizard-like space creature that gets energy by feeding on broccoli. When charged to full power, this creature can jump at very high levels and run at extreme speeds."

And this is what I came up with. The demographic is 13 and up so I presumed that it'll be mostly tweens and teens playing this, hence the playful- youthful design and pose. Wanted to contrast the Lazurite blue with red to create a vibrant dynamic.

The constructed pair of pants is inspired by subversive basics, a fashion category that I think teens nowadays would find cool, I personally find them very cool haha. The band-aid is to show that the character is a bit clumsy and quirky, and the bracelet is kinda like a GPS device though on a galactic scale, do with that info what u want lmao. Finally the backpack design is just to incorporate the actual Lazurite crystals and a more space-y look.
